In its capacity as the Registration Authority (RA) of the International Standards Organization (ISO) for registering RFID devices in conformance with ISO 11784 and ISO 11785, ICAR is issuing a reminder to all entities involved in the electronic identification of animals that there are specific requirements in the use of country codes when coding transponders.
According to Paragraph E2 of Annex E of ISO Standard ISO 24631-1 Radiofrequency identification of animals, “A manufacturer is not permitted to use a country code unless he is authorized by the specific official competent authority in this country. The manufacturer shall communicate the official authorization to the RA.”
If there is no official competent authority in a country, then a country code cannot be encoded into any ICAR certified transponder for the identification of any species in that country because the requirements listed in the aforementioned Paragraph E2 cannot be met.
Should you have any queries, please feel most welcome to contact ICAR.
